Thirteen Israelis were freed from Gaza in a truce deal on Friday, while a number of Thai captives were also released.

In addition to 13 Israeli hostages freed in the truce agreement, a number of Thai nationals captured from Israel on Oct. 7 were also released.

Vast challenges remain in freeing all 240 hostages. Most of all, Hamas’ claims that it is not holding roughly 100 of the captives.

The pause in fighting will begin at midnight ET, with the first 13 hostages to be handed over later Friday morning in exchange for Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails, Qatar said.

The families of hostages have called for negotiations and cease-fires in opposition to the far-right, which seeks a military-only solution.

The agreement, reached after weeks of talks brokered by the U.S. and Qatar, will also lead to the release of 150 Palestinians from Israeli jails.
